FAQ
2010 Card Production - currently 10 day turnaround from signup/update to dispatch due to volume of cards being ordered this time of year !
Please note if you had a card courtesy of BNZ last year you will need to click on this link and enter your details under " I'm back " and update your details. Once you have updated your details your card will be printed and sent out, it will not automatically be sent out otherwise. You DO NOT need a new code the system will remember you.
You will NOT get your 2010 card until you have updated your profile!
If you purchased a card either on campus or online last year you will need to do the same again this year.
Card Delivery:
If you are a new to BNZ customer please note that we have to wait for BNZ to confirm your activity status ie: you have to be using your account, before we can send out your card, this can take up to 4 weeks after you opened your account.
If you want to find out where your card is at just flick us an email (use the link at the bottom of the page) and we'll let you know!
I signed up a month ago and my card hasn't arrived yet
Either we're waiting on BNZ to confirm that you're using the account, or there's been a problem with your registration, or something's gone wrong with the post. Whatever it is, flick us an email and we'll sort it out!
I emailed you and got no reply
We get a fair amount of spam email sent to us, so unfortunately there's always a few real emails that get filtered out by mistake. If you haven't heard back from us within 72 hours there's a good chance we haven't got your email.
Just use the email link at the bottom of the page and don't mess with the subject line and it should get through ok.
Registration Questions
Where do I sign up?
Right here... www.studentcard.co.nz/registration
I can't upload my photo!
The most common problem is that the photo is too wide to fit on the screen. Sometimes if the DPI is too high (e.g. a high-quality digitial camera photo) it might not work either. We suggest you resize your photo to make it smaller and give it another go.
What's the deal with the photos? Do I have to have one of my face?
Pretty simple, you can either have a "serious" photo of your face, or a random picture of anything you like. If you have a random one then make sure you put your real name on the card and you may be asked for other ID to prove it's you.
Is this my BNZ banking card?
Nope. It's just a discount card. If you're a BNZ Campus Pack customer you should have a banking card from BNZ, if you haven't got one then give them a bell on 0800 275 269.
When I try to verify my email it says "verification failed"
There's two common reasons for this...
1) You already verified your email and completed the registration, possibly while drunk, and have forgotten that you've done it
2) You clicked the link twice by accident, possibly while drunk
Either way flick us an email (cards@studentcard.co.nz) and we'll check for you and make sure you're all set.
I have a promotional code, where do I enter it?
It's the last step of the registration after you verify your email. Just go through the steps and it'll come up eventually!
I lost my BNZ promotional code!
Don't panic! Just email us with your full name that you originally signed up for your BNZ Campus Pack with and we'll fire you back your code.
Card Delivery Questions
How long will it take for my card to arrive?
This depends on when you order your card, we get the carsds printed off site, but generally withing 10 working days latest, remember if you signed up with BNZ you may have a 4 week qualification period on top of this, but this is a one off. Once you are down as an active account holder you automatically get your card sent out the following year.
My card hasn't arrived yet and it's been over a month!
Flick us an email (use the link at the bottom of the page) and we'll see where it's at. Make sure you include your address so we can check for typos etc. Usually we have sent the acrd out and a typo or address change has happened and iot has gone to the wrong place. Please do not put your address at 'as above' fill the rego page out in full this cuts down on errors in distribution.

My card hasn't arrived yet, what do I do?
Sometimes we get your address wrong and sometimes the postal service just gobbles the card clean up. Either way we take responsibility for you not getting your discounts so all you gotta do is chuck through an email to cards@studentcard.co.nz with your name and address. We’ll check everything is in order and reorder the card. It should be with you pronto.
I lost my card, help!
Standard deal is $10 for a new card. Fire us an email and tell us your situation and we’ll get you fixed up with a new card. If your card got “eaten along with your thumb and forefinger by a gang of rabid iguanas seeking cheap burger king” we may even take pity on you. We’re suckers for good stories.
I got denied when I tried to get one of the deals! What do I do?
First of all, sorry it happened! This sometimes happens especially when a new staff member comes in and doesn’t know about the StudentCard deal. Get in touch with us at denial@studentcard.co.nz and we’ll talk to the head honchos to make sure it doesn’t happen again. They need to know which store it was, which day, and roughly what time.
What are the deals this year?
Check out the awesome array of deals here
How much is the card?
One easy payment of $19.99 plus $0.01 postage and packaging. For all the Arts students out there that comes to a total of 20 bucks.
How do I get one?
You can sign up for a card online here. You can pay for it online with a credit card, internet banking, or if you come see us on-campus during O Week you can sign up there and pay cash.
My mate won a year’s worth of BK from you guys. How do I get my hands on some prizes?
StudentCard likes to give 100% discounts or “prizes” as they are sometimes known. The best way to find out about these is by choosing to receive StudentCard emails – when you sign up, under contact preferences – cos this is where all the competitions and prizes go, we prefer to give deals than prizes that way everyone wins, but yeah we sometimes give some pretty cool stuff away.
Can we get a deal from “company X”?
StudentCard is always looking to get bigger and better deals. If there is somewhere you’d like a deal from then email your ideas into deals@studentcard.co.nz . We can’t promise that we’ll be successful but we need the suggestions so we can keep tabs on what you guys want.
How many times can I use the card?
A zillion times. Unlike loyalty coupons which can only be used once and limited time deals that run for a month or two, StudentCard is all about longevity and excessive use. What we’re trying to say is you can use each deal as many times as you like over the year. Lovely. No points, no vouchers, no statements, just the card and the ability to go for gold.
When does it expire?
StudentCard works off the calendar year so your card is valid right up until the 31st of December.
Who designed the StudentCard this year?
The card designers for the past few years have been...
2010: Luke from design4kicks.co.nz
2009: Mikey Javier
2008: Fraser Macedo
2007: Tim Molloy
2002-2006: Nick Quivers
Studentcard logo was designed by the awesome Tom Cotter in 2001 and is still looking good today.
Since 2008 the card has been designed by StudentCard members. If you think you can do better, make sure you’re signed up to get the email newsletters and we’ll tell you all about it in June next year.
What is StudentCard?
StudentCard is a discount service especially for students studying NZQA courses. Basically you purchase a card off us and flash it at any of our participating retailers and they give you a sweet deal in return. The deals last for the entirety of the year and can be used as much as you like.
Why is StudentCard?
StudentCard was initially started at the Uni of Auckland for their students to save some cash. The concept quickly took off and within a few years it expanded nationwide in the hope of providing the same benefits to students in every corner of our fair nation.
How is StudentCard?
Great! Thanks for asking.
What is the incentive for the companies?
Companies pay nothing to be involved with the card. Instead we get them to provide the best possible deal they can to you guys. This is why we require you guys to pay us $20 to get your hands on the card. The incentive for the companies lies in the extra business they get from students without having to spend money on advertising.
How is BNZ affiliated with StudentCard?
StudentCard is a completely seperate company we just have a partnership agreement with them.
Refunds
StudentCard has a no refund policy. We are 100% confident in StudentCard and that you will love it and never want to be without it. If your card self destructs under it's own acccord we will replace it for you so you can continue to reap the savings. In the event that you get a 2nd card as a gift in your Xmas stocking or anonymous valentine, we don't mind if you give your card to your best mate so that they can also be the envy of their friends.
My friend said everyone who works for StudentCard is really hot. Is that true?
Your friend is wise. However we are humble and don’t like these things getting out into the open as that could distract us from getting more discounts, so please keep it quiet.
What kind of information do you collect when I sign up?
Firstly all the basics like your name, what name you want on the card, where to send it etc. Plus some other stuff like how old you are and what you’re studying.
What do you do with the information?
There’s two ways we use the information. Firstly we collect all of it together for statistical purposes to try and get better deals (e.g. we could tell a company that 75% of StudentCard-holders are aged between 18-21, or that 11% of card-holders live in Christchurch).
The second way is to cut out some of the unnecessary information that we send to you – e.g. if we get a deal in Tauranga we won’t send it to anyone else. Or if you’re studying philosophy we won’t send you Graduate jobs listings, because you’ll never leave university. That sort of thing.
We will never give any of your personal details away to anyone else.
Will you ever give any of my details away to anyone else?
Nope. See the Privacy Policy for more details.
Are you going to send me ads?
StudentCard emails may include ads on behalf of companies from time to time. We’ll keep them as relevant to you as possible, and we lean towards promoting sales and specials rather than just straight advertising. Every email you get will have a competition and a prize in it as well, along with any important info about StudentCard you need to know, events and new discounts etc. We’re not just going to fill your inbox with spam because that sucks
Any money from ads is for a couple of things...
1) more prizes
2) events like free gigs for card-holders
3) to get 100,000+ members and then we can get bigger deals (yes we try for a petrol deal every year)
4) help grow the card in terms of technology so we can get even bigger deals
The choices are either to do the occassional ad, or raise the price of the card. Hopefully this way makes sense.
